Video Editing

This is where I showcase my editing and film projects. I mainly use Premiere Pro to edit videos.

The Red In Him

Caught between the challenges of recovery, drug addiction, and unwavering support, two siblings find themselves in a clash. As tensions escalate, a poignant confrontation and heartbreaking relapse unfold. Amid emotional turmoil, they navigate a journey towards genuine healing and mutual acceptance, defying expectations.

Film

Trailer/Reel

This was a graded final assessment for one of my diploma modules and is for the Central Narcotics Bureau's (CNB) Drug Free video competition 2025. The only experience we had in film production prior to this is our two continuous assessments of the module.

My Experience

I was the sound recordist for my team. We used the Zoom F8n Field Recorder and Sennheiser ME66 Super-cardioid Shotgun Microphone. We were originally going to have 3 days to shoot but due to equipment loan timings clashing with others, we were left with 2 shooting days. Still, we managed to get almost everything we needed with the resources we had.

Behind-The-Scenes

This was shot in an empty, open carpark with a nice view of the sunset peeking over the horizon and buildings in the distance. One major problem with this location is that there was a loud, annoying vent in the background that was very hard to get rid of. I tried filtering it out with HPF on the Zoom recorder and aiming the shotgun mic away from the source, but it was still audible in the recording.

Post-Production

This stage of the production took me 3 days (~15 hours). This included collating and importing video and audio files, learning how to do certain edits, finalizing scenes and mixing audio.

The bedroom scene was originally supposed to be in between the living room and carpark scene. I decided to shift it to the beginning instead. This is because later in the bedroom scene when the MC wakes up and lifts up the pillow revealing the drugs, the "red glitch" effect plays, and I wanted that as sort of a foreshadowing thing. That way, throughout the middle of the film, there is no "red glitch" effect and is saved for the climactic scene at the end.

Menace

Role: Director

This was our CA2 project about birds being a nuisance in canteens, which is smaller in scale, and it took us one day to shoot everything.

As the director, I was responsible for the overall creative direction of the project, including the story and visual style. I planned the shot list and lighting, directed the actors, and made sure everyone on set was aligned with the intended vision. During filming, we had a few disagreements over how certain shots should be done, but we worked through them by clearly explaining our ideas, especially how the shots would be edited later on. We ended up combining different ideas and compromising when needed. In post-production, we also shared editing techniques and helped each other learn along the way.
